Divorce Appraisals

One the biggest assets in most households is the family home. In the case of a divorce one of the major questions involves “What do we do with the house” or “Who gets it”? While these are differing with each case they require a current valuation of the house. Once it is known what the current market value is then a decision can be made whether it is best to sell the house, or have one party “buy out” the other. In either case an unbiased professional appraisal that is well-documented and of course defensible in court is in order. These types of appraisals are generally more extensive than the “typical” appraisal many people are familiar with when they had an appraisal for a mortgage transaction. It is important to have someone who is knowledgeable and experienced in this type of appraisal and who thoroughly knows the local market.

My reports have been relied on by Attorneys and Accountants for divorces, tax appeals, retrospective values and estates throughout Central Connecticut. I understand the needs of these professionals and their clients and am used to dealing with all parties involved in a professional manor. I provide reports that meet and often exceed the needs of attorneys and the courts.

Sometimes it is necessary to have an update to an appraisal because market conditions have changed, or the time frame has been extended. This is available, as is a review of an appraisal done either previously or for an opposing attorney with a value that is questioned.

Confidentiality and complete discretion are paramount. All appraisals are USPAP (Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice) compliant and delivered on the appropriate forms, either electronically or through the mail.
